FreeBSDの魅力はportsかもしれませんが、portsからkdeをインストールしたときは
Pen4 H/Tで ５日かかった・・・・・・
経験がないと いつ終わるかわからないのが つらいところです・・

sysinstall を利用した アプリケーションの インストール

[configure]-[packages]を選択します。
すると、最初にインストール手段と問われます。
別にCD-ROMに求めるアプリケーションが入っていればCD-ROMを選択すれば良いわけですが、今回はFTPを選択します。
Firewall越しな方はFTP PassiveやHTTPを選択してください。
FTPなどのネットワークを利用する項目を選択した場合は、次に接続先のサーバーを選択するためのサーバーリストが表示されます。。
CD-ROMを選択した場合は自動的にpackageリストが表示されます。
この中のどこでも良いのですが、なるべく近いサーバーを選択してください。
日本のサーバーだと、ftp.jp.freebsd.orgやftp2.jp.freebsd.orgなどを選択すれば良いでしょう。
選択すると、ネットワークの設定はできていますか？と問われます。
インストール時に設定したはずなのでYesを押してしばらく待ちます。
しばらくするとpackageの一覧がカテゴリ別に表示されます。
そこからカテゴリを選択して、アプリケーションをスペースキーでチェック入れて、Cancelでカテゴリに戻ってInstallを選択すれば自動的にインストールされます。
簡単ですね。
この時、選択したアプリを入れるのに必要なソフトも自動的に選択されて一緒にインストールされるようになっています。
試しにnet/cvsup-without-gui-16.1fを入れて見ることにします。
netの中のcvsup-without-gui-16.1fを選択してインストールします。
インストールが完了したらsysinstall画面に戻ってくるので、Exitで終了させましょう。
ちなみにアンインストールしたい時は、再びpackageの一覧画面にして、チェックが既にされている項目上でスペースを押してチェックを外してアンインストールします。
このとき、依存があるものについては先に依存しているアプリをアンインストールする必要があります。
インストールされているか確認する
インストールされているpackage / ports一覧を表示するにはpkg_infoコマンドを使います。
> pkg_info
としてやればpackageの一覧が表示されます。
インストールされているアプリケーションが多くて全部見れない場合は、
> pkg_info | less
などとして自分でスクロールして確認することができます。
とりあえずqで終了します。
